The failing world economy has had enormous negative effects on  many businesses and individuals.  Even through this chaos it's still a great time to be running a business that provides real value to real people solving real problems.  

If you can provide a product or service that helps people solve real problems in an efficient, cost effective manner you will still be very successful. Like many of the great business people have said with great change comes great opportunity.

As a web developer, it's a great time to put an ecommerce package together and sell it to small local retailers and help them market their products country/world wide.  There are thousands of people and companies who will do this, but how many will walk into their shops, sit down and discuss it with them.  Also, putting a website up selling products is only the first easy step in the process.  The second more difficult step is to actually market the website and get people to buy the products!  Ideas for that may come in another post ;)
